Tagasaste has long been recognised in Australia as a very useful emergency fodder plant. It is a native of the Canary Islands off the coast of Morroco in the Atlantic ocean. These islands are very rugged, exposed, very dry and hostile thus indicating that these plants are extremely hardy and well adapted to Australia's harsh conditions.

Tagasaste is an extremely fast-growing leguminous tree which flowers prolifically in late winter and from a very young age. It produces high levels of pollen and nectar making it a very useful plant for beekeepers as well as providing abundant foliage for emergency grazing. The nutritional value of the foliage is not dissimilar to pasture Lucerne itself. This species is tolerant of a wide range of soil types and is drought tolerant and frost tolerant making itsuitable for also planting over a wide range of sites.
A mature height of between 3 and 6 metres can be expected under most conditions.
Landowners could use a 40/pack of these plants to trial them and within 2 years or so harvest voluminous seed for the development of further on-farm plantings.
All our plants are grown outside and hardened up to the elements and ready for direct planting.
