Melaleuca squarrosa or 'scented paper bark' is large shrub to 3 - 4 metres and occaisionally a small tree to 5 metres or so. It usually inhabits moist soils along water courses and in valleys. Melaleuca squarrosa develops attractive papery bark and has yellow bottle brush flowers in Spring.
Scented paper bark is a useful screening and windbreak species on better soils and in higher rainfal areas.

Generally, the concentrated clusters of markers represent the geographical range where this species occurs naturally. Outlying markers and geographically disassociated markers represent observations of the species in cultivation and/or recorded in herbaria etc.
