Tagasaste, or tree lucerne, is a small spreading evergreen tree that grows to height of 3-4 metres.
This plant is well known as a fertiliser tree and is indigenous to the dry volcanic slopes of the Canary Islands, but is now grown in Australia, New Zealand and other parts of th world as a fodder crop.
The creamy-white flowers are scented and the bloom in Spring, and on the odd occasion winter.
Tagasaste is well suted to well-drained and sandy soils. their roots cn extend down to 10 metres in open and freely drained soils.
