Banksia spinulosa, sometimes known as Hairpin Banksia growing between 1-3 metres.
The flower colours vary from brown, red, orange and gold.
B. spinulosa grows well in soils ranging from light through to moderately heavy with good moisture and drainage.
Soils with high lime content lead to yellowing foliage and poor growth.
Winter frosts do not impede its growth and forms from southern sources can be regarded as frost hardy.
This is a great addition to your native garden.
Remember to water it in after application. Mulch plants with a coarse mulch to keep the roots cool, suppress competing weeds and retain soil moisture when it is dry.
