Banksia Marginata is commonly known as the Silver Banksia, and is a species of woody shrub growing to up to 10-12 metres.
They are found throughout most of south-eastern Australia, growing in a variety of habitats, such as Eucalyptus forests, scrub, heathlands and moorlands.
They flower from late summer to early winter and are yellow, but fade to brown then grey and soon they develop woody follicles that bear the winged seeds.
They distribute from south-eastern NSW down through most of Victoria and into south eastern SA.
They thrive in clay, loam and sandy soils, and tolerate drought, lime, moderate frost and even soil salinity.
Seed sourced from Illabarook
Remember to water in after application. Mulch plants with a coarse mulch to keep the roots cool, suppress competing weeds and retain soil moisture when it is dry.
